After 3 days of intense rehearsals and all other rehearsals we had every Friday afternoon, two nights in boarding school, and one day in the holidays, the whole JH2 finally get to perform a real stage to real audiences who were either forced to come by their teachers, or bought tickets which cost 8 dollars. The principal, vice-principal, and some of the HODs were there. Teachers who once taught us, like Mr Sim and Mr Lim, were there too.
Our play, Perfect for the Job, is about Mr Hanson Armstrong, aka Mr Perfect, suing a company which only hires less abled or less privilaged people. We were the first class to perform, followed by JH204, et cetera. I’ve heard comments feedbacks from different people and they said that our play is one of best among the 6 JH2 classes, excellent. I was acting as Mr Bay Leaf, the guy who opens the case, escorts people in and out of the witness stand, and best known as the man who shouts at the top of his voice “SILENCE, ALL RISE!” and “Do you promise to… (tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?”, or even the submissive guy who helps to pick up Judge Chairman Cowell’s crutches. The whole experience was great. It was tiring yet fun. It was one of the coolest thing I’ve ever experienced.
After our play, I wanted to watch the other class’s plays. But we were not allow to enter the LT. :( I really wanted to watch JH202’s play. I think it’ll be really cool. It’s about a group of people talking about senior citizens, like how their grandparents are like and how they treat them. I saw their rehearsal before, and found it quite touching. And their lighting effects too, when someone is talking, the spotlight will only shine on him/ her and the other people in the darkness will freeze. Sigh, can’t watch it. The school recorded the whole show, I hope they can show it to us.
Last year, when I first knew that we were going to do a play in front of the principal and teachers, I thought it's gonna be like something in High School Musical. Then when I saw the script, I thought it was boring as it is about some lame person suing a weird company. It’s not in anyway fun, exciting or entertaining. It’s just a boring courtroom case. However, as the days go by, I somehow found it more interesting and Mr Bay Leaf was quite a fun character to work with (by shouting my lines, shaking my left arm and walking with a broken right leg, like some fractured loud chicken). Haha. It’s a really unique experience. I don’t think I can experience this in other schools.
Everyone played their part and did their best for the play and the show, be it being the actors and enhancing their acting skills, or working as the crew and getting together to solve problems about the play itself, lighting, props, stage, scene changes, sound, makeup, ticketing, budget and et cetera. No matter how tired or hungry they are, or how late they had to reach home, the class worked together to make sure that the play is interesting and entertaining. Everyone put in so much time and effort that even the crew can recite all the character’s lines without fail. Yes, the process is tiring, but we enjoyed ourselves so much. Because of the rehearsals, the whole class spent almost the whole day with one another. We were closer and our relationships got stronger. We knew one another better and became more caring for one another.
Soon all the classes finished performing. And all the JH2s had a final bow on stage. It was that time when I realised it’s the
end of our drama module, and Ms Bridget Therese Lachica, our trainer, will no longer teach us, but only the JH1s. I feel sad. Really sad. After the show we didn’t even get to celebrate with her or anything. We only thanked her on stage, and that’s too little. It seems to me that drama ended too soon. I can’t believe it is only a 1 year module. I still want it, I enjoyed it very much!! Ms Bridget is a really great teacher. She’s disciplined and funny, and really cool. I mean just look at her acting skills man!!!!! And her accents! So cool, so cool!! I wanna visit her on next Monday while she’s teaching the JH1s, then Canoeing training came to my mind. _|_
Seriously man, canoeing is fun. But really time consuming. I wonder what if I joined band in the first place.Band only has 1 practice per week, while canoeing has more than two.The band teacher wanted me, and I told her I was interested. Then I went to join canoeing… I’m not saying that I’m gonna quit canoeing, I still like it, it’s just that.. Argh.
